Egypt is making a strategic shift in its energy mix with the construction of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, a 4.8 GW facility being developed in partnership with Russia’s Rosatom. This $30 billion project, slated to begin operations in 2028, is a significant step toward enhancing grid stability and providing cleaner, more reliable energy for the country. Once operational, it will be Africa’s second nuclear project after South Africa’s Koeberg Power Station. The plant is a key component of Egypt’s long-term strategy to meet its growing energy demands and support its industrialization agenda, as it is a major recipient of foreign direct investment in the energy sector.
